For my externship I'll be spending the month working for the Marines at RSS Clairemont. I'm already in the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) for the Marine Corps, they nickname people like me as "Poolees" since were apart of the substation's enlisted pool. It's not unfamiliar for the recruiters to have someone filling in the responsibilities that I'm going to take, every once in a while a Marine or two from the fleet will come in and be an RA (Recruiting Assistant), so my job here will be very similar.
I'm glad that my recruiter, Staff Sergeant Timothy Lewis, agreed to having me along and helping out with the Marine Corps mission here at the office. That mission, being to find applicants and future Marines.
RSS Clairemont handles enlisted and officer applicants coming from the schools and neighborhoods in proximity of Clairemont, all the way from Point Loma to Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa. I'll be working alongside the recruiters as they reach out into the community and offer the Marine Corps' way of life as a helping hand to those looking to serve.
This week was very eye-opening to the process that the recruiters have to go through to create future Marines. It's been good to know that the work I'm doing here is meaningful and I look forward to the rest of my externship.
Here's a list of some of the things I've assisted with inside and outside the office

Here's a list of some of the things I've assisted with inside and outside the office
- Area Canvasing, walking public spaces and having conversations with people who show interest in the Corps
- Transportation, being ready at all times to drive and pickup people and poolees for meetings, work outs, interviews, functions, etc.
- Office Paperwork
- Errands for the recruiters and the NCOIC (NonCommissioned Officer In Charge)
