Scarlet Ibis Essay
Pride Strips people of the ability to think and feel compassionately. "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst is a story about a boy whose shame for having a crippled brother makes him want to teach him how to walk. He does a good thing- but for the wrong reasons. Eventually, he pushes his brother too hard and as a result, he loses him. The boy changes and develops by the end of the story when he realizes that the price he pays for his overbearing sense of pride is the life of his younger brother.
I got a 2 on this essay. I used a lot of past tense words and vocabulary. The content and message of my essay was sound, but the formality of the writing was not.

What I Learned This Year
This year I have grown immensely as a writer. It started off being in Margaret's Humanities class, while Erin was away on maternity leave. We wrote poems, short stories, etc. This year I wrote lots of great pieces. One of the greatest is my play, "Don't Mean A Thing". Through the script I wrote, I demonstrated my writing skills in regards to creating compelling characters and establishing a realistic setting. My plot lines and story boarding could use work, but I got a lot of helpful advice and consul from my writing team during the play project.
