A List of Books I've Read This Year
- With The Old Breed: at Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Boundurant Sledge
- Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury This is a book we read as a class during school. It's a dystopian fiction that depicts a world where books are outlawed and society is full of mindless sheep.
- The Things They Carried by Tim O'brien
This book is a collection of stories that O'brien wrote about his life and the lives of his comrades before, during, and after U.S. involvement in the Vientam Conflict. His experiences and reflections are able to show us what the very real prospect and concept of war can do to the human mind.
- Antigone by Sophocles
- Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah
- Because of Romek by David Faber
- The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
This book is about a young Mexican girl whose family moves onto the "Developing" community of Mango Street. Her story is pieced together through short stories and poetic entries as she grows up. She experiences the lives of her neighbors and details the stories of women who have become unfortunate victims of circumstance. I think this book is very worth the read. Cisneros uses simple and yet poetic language to depict her stories and the stories of those who lived around her.
